Generations of Peace Association Launches the “Bag of Hope” Campaign to Distribute School Bags and Educational Supplies to Palestinian Children

Generations of Peace Association has launched the “Bag of Hope” campaign, an initiative aimed at distributing school bags and educational supplies to Palestinian children across the West Bank in preparation for the new school year, with a particular focus on children living in areas facing difficult conditions and increasing restrictions. The campaign’s first stop was Shaab al-Batm village in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, where the journey to school is long. In recent years, restrictions and measures imposed by the Israeli military, alongside the escalating attacks and harassment by settlers, have made it increasingly difficult for Palestinian children to reach their schools and continue their education. During this visit, members of the association made the journey to the school, carrying school bags and educational supplies purchased thanks to donations and the support of friends of the campaign in the United States. It was a deeply moving and emotional day for all of us. At the school, we were welcomed by Mr. Nidal Younis, Head of the Masafer Yatta Council, and Mr. Jad Al-Nawajaa, the school principal. They spoke to us about the challenges facing local communities in Masafer Yatta and about the children who live and study in the area. Approximately three weeks ago, the Israeli military demolished two classrooms at the school, while residents of the area continue to face attacks and harassment by settlers. Despite these difficult circumstances, the school continues its work and preparations to welcome students at the beginning of the new academic year. Over the coming days, Generations of Peace Association will continue implementing the “Bag of Hope” campaign, reaching children in villages and communities across the West Bank. The campaign seeks to support their right to education and help them begin the new school year with dignity and hope.
